also what casper doesn’t know is stretch is actually his father. stretch wasn’t ready to be a paternal figure any time soon to he told convinced casper’s mom that john was casper’s dad.

it’s stretch’s biggest regret and though he still hasn’t told casper & though he antagonizes him, he cares deeply for casper and he knows that his death is on his own hands.

he’d do anything for that boy. anything.

a quick summary of the upcoming three part story of his death:

stretch was out and about, getting some things for his brothers & nephew. a white woman had tripped in front of him and her belongings fell on the ground. stretch quickly rushed to help her up and with her things. what he didn’t know is that she’d stolen some items. out of fear of being caught as eyes were upon them both, she screamed that he was touching her inappropriately. her husband was nearby and stretch, out of fright for his life, ran away.

what he didn’t know was that the husband had followed him home & brought some friends. casper was inside the house and the other two were behind, doing some work in the backyard. the husband asked for stretch to just come out so they could talk about it. stretch knew it wouldn’t be good to just stay inside so he told casper that he’d be back & if he heard anything, he needed to run and not look back. casper was scared but still wasn’t sure what was going on.

stretch walked outside & casper, being the curious innocent boy he is, decided to see what was going on for himself so he went toward the window and watched out of sight. obviously, the white men had no want to talk and just wanted a ‘nigger’s blood to spill’. but they wanted to teach him a lesson so instead of shooting him… they shot the house up first.

the next thing anyone would hear was the scream of a little boy being hit by a barrage of bullets. stretch saw red and rushed the men immediately but was gunned down. stinkie and fatso came inside to see what happened. the last thing casper would see as a living human was the frightened faces of his uncles.

his uncles did manage to kill the husband, but they also were gunned down. and since they couldn’t leave any proof, they burned down the house as well after dumping the three bodies back inside.

the rage that was felt by the trio is what caused them to become the chaotic poltergeists that they are. however, the innocence of casper allowed him to just become a gentle spectral being, still bound to the earth because of it not being his time to go.

and that’s that.

hc + pranks ☺️

he’s not as bad as his uncles. far from, let’s be real. but, sometimes, he can’t help himself and likes to have a bit of fun. honestly, it’s a way for him to cope with the fact that he’s not alive. every now and then, he finds himself in a depressive state and it’s not something that anyone can help with. a part of him understands that it’s pointless to feel such a way, but sometimes he can’t help but feel as if he missed so much and was denied the life he was meant to have.

the influence of his uncles also heighten this need to mess with unsuspecting humans from time to time. but he’s never violent / that is his one rule. he would never harm and he would never scar them. his pranks consist of perhaps an eerie sound or a rattle of an object. minor poltergeist things, to be quite honest.

there was a time that he went too far & he’s vowed to never let it happen again. a car was coming down his street and, with the urging of his uncles, he took over the steering wheel controls. he would give it back soon enough, but the woman inside the car was so terrified that she passed out. casper hadn’t realized it quick enough after he left the car & it crashed into a light pole. he learned that the woman lost the use of her legs. it wasn’t his plan to put her in harm’s way and it’s one of his many regrets.

hc mornings

if there is one thing that could be considered ‘stereotypical’ of a ghost, it’s that they prefer the night. and, though casper does typically go against any sort of stereotype, it’s the same for him. it’s not that he isn’t a morning person, but the concept is just foreign to him nowadays. being a ghost, they aren’t bound by time as humanity is. but he finds himself more active in the later hours of the day.

it might also be because of his childhood. as a human boy, he did not like the mornings much because it just wasn’t safe for a small black kid as himself. he didn’t like to go outside, out of fear of what could have happened to him. it was the early 1950s when he was a pre-teen. the civil rights movement was in it’s beginning stages ; no one was fighting those with his skin tone. it was better for those like him to play within their homes at night time than to risk being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

now, as a ghost, he isn’t against going out in the early hours of the day. especially in this newer climate, but he doesn’t forget the past so he tends to keep to the afternoon & onwards when he can.
